Playing Jazz-Guitar is a Journey not a Destination

Hi my name is Jim and I am just a moderate jazz-guitar player who just loves listening to and playing jazz music on my guitar.

On this site I wish to share my experiences of learning to play jazz guitar so that you have something to compare your experiences with.

Maybe you can share your experiences with others through this site so that we all can increase our guitar playing skills and expertise.

Jazz-Guitar

I am not a professional jazz-guitarist or a teacher?

I am like thousands of other moderate jazz guitar players around the world who sit in their music room day after day trying to understand what jazz music is about and how you can play it well.

The purpose of this website is to tell the story of one such jazz guitarist in terms of how I went about learning jazz guitar, the fantastic highs and the not too bad lows, the positives of working alone, and the many opportunities for lifetime friendships to be formed. I will write about topics such as:-

* the gear I own and have owned;

* the learning strategies I put in place;

* the elements of guitar playing most important to jazz music;

* some of my favourite jazz guitarists;

* list the resources available when learning jazz guitar;

* where to listen to the best jazz music;

All of this is interspersed with anecdotes and stories of my jazz experience. In doing this I hope that you my fellow lover of jazz can relate in some ways to my experiences and, in fact share your experiences to enrich the site for all the other lovers of jazz around the world.

Jazz-Guitar

People often ask me:- What's so special about playing jazz-guitar?

For me its the intense pleasure and the feelings of satisfaction and pride I get when playing.

I get a great deal of satisfaction playing jazz. Each different tune sparks off an emotion in me. Some tunes are happy, some not so happy, but each tune tells a story and you are telling that story to your listeners as you play.

So what made you become a jazz guitarist?

I am not sure that you ever become an absolute jazz guitarist because playing is a continuous never ending journey. Some individuals are very accomplished jazz guitar players, but even these seek out further avenues of jazz to explore.

If you are learning jazz-guitar or even just thinking about playing jazz guitar then this page hopefully will help you on your way.
